JMG Le Clézio won the Nobel Prize for Litterature. It's of course hugely deserved.
He is an awesome writer, one of the most intelligent human being I ever listened to (He was on TV tonight and honestly, he is amazing. In this time of cultural deprivement and general stupidity, he is like an oasis in the desert). It is incidental (hum) that at 68 he still looks so incredibly hot. It fascinated me, as a kid, when my mom told me that did not allow any photograph to be taken, for fear that people would only see his beauty and ignore his talent. I must have been eight at the time and she was reading Le Clezio's first book "Le procès verbal". I don't know why she told me about this but I know I still remember the anecdote and the personality of Le Clezio has always kept something mythical for me. And in fact there are no pictures of him as the very young man he was when he published "Le procès verbal" ( he must have been 23).

I dislike Sarah Palin's ideas - they make me sick. I refuse to imagine what would happen if she would become President of the United States. I also dislike her for dragging her teenage pregnant daughter into this appalling circus - poor girl being forced to smile under the cameras and assume so publicly something that should have remain purely private; her pregnancy becoming an affair of State. She's 17. Her bf is 19. They should be left well alone to live their lives as quietly as possible. Maybe Palin should have thought about this before accepting the job? That protecting her daughter was more important than her career? I don't know. Maybe.
That being said, it does not make her a failure as a mother. What? Her daughter did not behave like she was taught to? What a surprise that among five kids (well, four, the last one is a baby) there's one who does not behave as expected! Teenagers have a mind of their own. We want them to go to college, wait until they're 26 to have a kid, marry a good man (woman) and so on and what do they do? They don't even finish high school, find a job and become pregnant too soon (too soon for us, of course). It happens in every fucking family; it does not mean the parents are bad parents (don't forget, Freud said it; there are no good parents, anyway). Just that with this particular child, our education did not have the expected results. Shit happens.
Meanwhile, in France, the mayor of Paris is openly gay. Our president married a model/singer/anarchist. Our Minister of justice is pregnant at 43 and unmarried. She won't reveal the father's name: "My private life is complicated," she says, "and PRIVATE." God knows I dislike her ideas but you have to admit - she's brave. Abortion is legal. God. We must be the land of the Antechrist!!
ETA: and 53 % of the babies are born from unmarried couples. This is something that never fails to make me happy. Don't ask why, I don't know.
